Classic Apple Crisp is just like Grandma would make!
The recipe for Classic Apple Crisp came from my mother-in-law, my kids’ Grandma. She came from a long line of great bakers and passed this on to me. It is our favorite thing to do with apples. Peaches could definitely be used too, if that is what you had on hand. If you have 5-7 pounds of apples, use a 9×13 baking dish and double the topping ingredients. This does go fast so I usually make a large pan. It makes the house smell oh, so good, too! 🙂

4 pounds apples, peeled and sliced
½ cup sugar
2 Tbsp butter, softened but not melted
½ cup flour
½ Tbsp plus 1 tsp cinnamon
Spray 7×11 or 8×8 baking dish.
Peel and slice apples and put in baking dish. The dish will be heaping full but the level will go way down as it cooks.
Sprinkle with about 1 tsp of cinnamon.
Mix butter and sugar. A pastry cutter works very well.
Add flour and ½ Tbsp of cinnamon and mix well again.
Spread over apples.
Bake at 350* for about an hour or until apples are tender.
