Cherry Chocolate Cake is extra moist with a special addition, super easy with a box cake mix and cool and refreshing with pudding “frosting”.
This Cherry Chocolate Cake is my favorite cake! It is the special cake that I request for my birthday and have for many years.
I love the combination of cherries and chocolate, how moist it is and that it is sweet but the pudding “frosting” keeps it from being too sweet.
With the pudding frosting, it needs to be kept in the refrigerator so it is nice and cold and that is another thing that makes it so good.
This cake also has the ease of boxed ingredients. It is home baked but still very easy.
When I want a special cake but one that is simple too, this is the one that I reach for.

Why I Love This Recipe
Easy to make with simple ingredients.
Cherry and chocolate combination!
The pudding “frosting” is unique and refreshing!
Can it Be Made Ahead of Time?
This is great made ahead of time and needs time to chill so is best made ahead.
If you are going to decorate the top with Cool Whip and cherries, that part is best done very close to serving time, as the Cool Whip tends to run if done too far ahead of time.
Can This Be Frozen?
I don’t know. I will try a piece the next time I make it and let you know.
How to Store Cherry Chocolate Cake
Store cake covered in refrigerator.
