Simple Keto Ham with Fancy Dipping Sauces

Simple Keto Ham with Fancy Dipping Sauces

Simple Keto Ham with Fancy Dipping Sauces; A basic non sweet low carb Keto ham recipe and 4 sauces to give variety and delicious flavor!

This is not my first Easter eating very low carb but it is the first year I am cooking a big meal for my family. I really wanted to make a ham but how to do that?

The hams I have known in the past have been covered in brown sugar, pineapple and/or other very sweet, high sugar carbs. Yes, there are low carb sweeteners out there but I wanted to try another route.

Why not make the ham simple and do something or some things fancier on the side? We love sauces and condiments and anything dipping so with the help of family brain storming, came up with Simple Keto Ham with Fancy Dipping Sauces. It was a hit!

The Ham

The most excellent option for a clean, Keto ham is uncured with no nitrates and no sugars added. If you can find a local farmer where you can buy a ham raised there, that is the absolute best. That is not always possible so here are some other options:

My in-laws live near an Amish market in PA that has whole hams with no nitrates or sugars that are wonderful. I get one or two for my freezer when I can from there.

Pederson’s Farms hams are dairy free, gluten free, MSG free, Paleo Friendly, soy free, sugar free and Whole 30 approved. Here is a link to their site. They are quite expensive if ordered online but they do also have a store locator so maybe you can find one in a store near you.

Sometimes you are at the mercy of what is in your grocery store. If the label says “cured with” and “less than 2% of” salts, other ingredients, sugars and nitrates, that really isn’t TOO bad in the grand scheme of things.

I am not telling you it is or is not OK for you—that is up to you. I use them sometimes. For the ham in this recipe I used Kentucky Legend Smoked Ham and it was labeled like I said above. Here is a picture.

You definitely don’t want a ham labeled as honey or maple glazed. They are usually 5-6 carbs per serving. At least the ones above are usually 1 or less than 1 per serving. Just read the ingredients and nutrition label on each ham.

Here is a peak at what my plate looked like. It was delicious with the ham and dipping sauces, Roasted Parmesan Asparagus, Twice Baked Cauliflower Casserole, Broccoli Cauliflower Salad, Cole Slaw and Best Ever Deviled Eggs. Desserts were on a different plate. 🙂

There are cooking directions on the package that the ham comes in but I got the idea to use chicken broth instead of water and to baste the ham while cooking from allrecipes. It was a good idea!

Ingredients:

ham

chicken broth

Directions:

Spray an oven safe baking dish.

Add the ham.

Pour chicken broth over ham.

Cover with foil.

Baste every 20-30 minutes while cooking about 1 ½-2 hours.

The size of the ham and amount of broth can vary greatly. You just need enough broth to have a bit in the bottom of the pan and to be able to baste the ham with. And assuming your ham is fully cooked, you just need to cook it long enough to heat it through, so 15-20 minutes per pound or as per package directions.
