Sometimes cabbage can be bland. Cabbage cooked in butter with onions and smoked sausage is anything but bland.

I love this meal because even with the chopping I can have it on the table in less than 30 minutes and cleanup after is super easy with just one skillet to wash.

Cabbage and Smoked Sausage is a great one dish meal and as leftovers for lunch the next day.

I always make plenty so I am assured yummy lunches to come.

A head of cabbage and a pack of sausage is also very inexpensive so that is another reason we make this frequently.

(How to cut a cabbage)

 

Ingredients:

12 cups chopped cabbage (1 head)

2 cups sliced onion (1 medium)

8 oz butter (1 stick)

12 oz sliced smoked sausage

salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

Melt butter in skillet on medium heat.

Slice cabbage and onion and add to skillet.

Cut up sausage and add to skillet.

Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cook, stiring occasionally, for about 20 minutes or until cabbage is done the way you like it. We like ours pretty soft.

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 medium onion
  • 8 oz butter (1 stick)
  • 12 oz sliced smoked sausage
  • Salt and pepper to taste

  1. This sounds good but I will have to cut up the sausage and brown it before adding to cabbage or my husband will not touch it!

    1. Sure, that would work! You don’t want it to be too far ahead of the cabbage but you could brown it first. I hope you both like it!
